July 4th at the National Archives
About The Event
Celebrate the 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding on Saturday, July 4, at the National Archives, where the original Declaration of Independence is just steps away from Constitution Avenue.
For more than 50 years, the National Archives has hosted its annual Fourth of July celebration, and this year the tradition continues with historical reenactors and a dramatic reading of the Declaration of Independence. Additional free, family-friendly activities include opportunities to meet reenactors portraying the Founding Fathers and Mothers, live musical performances, face painting, t-shirt giveaways, balloon artists, arts and crafts, and more.
Americans from across the country are invited to join this once-in-a-generation celebration of the nation’s history and heritage at the National Archives.
All July 4 activities, both inside and outside the museum, are free and open to the public. The National Archives Museum will remain open with extended hours until 10:00 p.m. Timed entry tickets to view the original Declaration of Independence are encouraged to streamline entry and help avoid long lines.
