2026 Fourth of July Celebrations FAQs

This year on the National Mall, the Salute to America Celebration and Fireworks, designated a National Special Security Event by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, will bring a full day of performances, flyovers, and the largest fireworks display in history to DC.

Check out the map below for recommended spots and fireworks viewing locations. You can also visit 250.dc.gov/page/fireworks-national-mall for fireworks maps, flyover viewing areas, and traffic closure information.

Enter from Constitution Avenue NW or Independence Avenue SW and follow signs to the entry queue on 14th Street NW. Large crowds are expected, so plan to arrive early and allow extra time for security screening.

Fireworks on the National Mall are scheduled to begin at approximately 10:30 p.m.

Skip the parking stress this July 4 as Metro is FREE to ride from 5:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., including Metrorail, Metrobus, and MetroAccess. Smithsonian Station (Blue/Orange/Silver lines) is the most convenient stop for the National Mall.

Driving instead? Plan ahead! Expect extensive street closures and parking restrictions around the National Mall from June 28 through July 4. Check the Metropolitan Police Department’s (MPD) Traffic Advisory, for the latest closures and restrictions before you head out.

Illegal Fireworks Report

• Call (202) 673-2776 or submit tips at fmhotline.femsdc.com. From July 3–6, you can also report illegal fireworks through the DC311 Mobile App (Illegal Fireworks Request) or by calling 311 and selecting #1.

Fireworks Injury or Property Damage

• Call 911 immediately for emergency fire or police response.

Suspicious Activity Reporting

• If there is an immediate threat to life or property, call 911. For non-emergencies, report suspicious activity by calling 202-727-9099, texting 50411, or submitting a report at iWATCHDC.org.

Pet Safety

• If you see an animal left outside or inside a vehicle on a hot day, call the Brandywine Valley SPCA at (202) 888-PETS.
