When Macbeth receives a prophecy foretelling his rise to power, he faces a choice that has haunted humanity across centuries: what do we do with power once we have it?
Shakespeare’s famed tragedy is a cautionary tale about the cost of self-interest and how the unchecked pursuit of power can corrupt even the most earnest of beginnings. First performed in the 1600s, Macbeth remains an ever-relevant call to evaluate the individual choices we make when the systems that govern us begin to fail us.
Directed by Madeleine Regina, co-producer of the award-winning Feminist Fairytales and celebrated faculty member of The Theatre Lab’s adult, youth, and Life Stories® programs, this production of Macbeth carefully examines life’s inevitable struggle with ambition, greed, and guilt —and how that struggle can draw us into, or pull us out of, our sense of shared humanity.
