Language & Liberty: The Power and Privilege of Women’s Public Speech
About The Event
Join Planet Word Museum for Language & Liberty: The Power and Privilege of Women’s Public Speech to explore the voices that have shaped America—and those historically left unheard.
On Tuesday, June 2, spend your evening with acclaimed historian Drew Gilpin Faust as she will examine the role of women’s voices in American history, from the Declaration of Independence to present-day conversations around representation, influence, and power.
From the early decades of the new nation to contemporary debates about representation and power, Dr. Faust will share new research on the evolving role of women’s voices in the American experience. Who speaks and who is allowed to speak? What assumptions have governed women’s voices in the public sphere across American history? More than a century after women gained the right to vote, how do these ideas continue to shape our social and political landscape today?
