Support the DowntownDC Foundation TODAY for Giving Tuesday Now

Help the DowntownDC BID continue to support individuals experiencing homelessness during the COVID-19 pandemic by donating on May 5 to the DowntownDC Foundation for #GivingTuesdayNow, a global day of giving in response to COVID-19. In March 2020, operations were temporarily halted inside the Downtown Day Services Center due to COVID-19. Overnight, this meant that the BID’s 120-160 daily guests experiencing homelessness immediately had lost their access to lunch, showers, laundry, restrooms, social work, health care and more basic and critical services. But we worked with city leaders and partners to immediately pivot.

We began serving lunch outdoors, with our ambassadors serving boxed lunches to 110 people daily 7 days a week under new social distancing and safety guidelines to minimize the spread of COVID-19 while maintaining this crucial service. In addition, we began distributing 75 evening snack packs per day and we worked with city partners to locate portable handwashing stations and portable toilets in DowntownDC

  • Today, we need assistance in continuing to serve lunch daily to individuals experiencing homelessness as well as distributing evening snack packs
  • Today, we are in need of clothing, sanitary supplies and hygiene items for individuals experiencing homelessness
  • Today, we need help purchasing and distributing disposable masks and gloves to help protect the health and safety of some of our most vulnerable community members and help reduce the spread of COVID-19

Thanks to the generous support from a donor, we have secured a 2-1 match for every donation to this campaign! That means each dollar you donate WILL BE TRIPLED! Help us reach our $5,000 goal. We know that we are better together and with your help, we will weather this storm and emerge stronger than ever.
