Eager shoppers lined up early to catch the grand opening of the new downtown Marshalls (529 14th Street). Mayor Vincent C. Gray was also present and showed support as the national discount retailer opened its doors to two stories of bargain clothing and home goods, all located in a spectacular spot facing the corner of 14th and F Streets in the Shops at National Place. The new location is the former home of Filene’s Basement, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and closed its doors in 2011. In addition to one other DC store in Columbia Heights, Marshalls now has over 880 shops across the country.
