Vocal Arts DC: An Evening of American Songs

Join Vocal Arts DC on Saturday, October 4, at 5:00 p.m. as tenor Ben Bliss and pianist Christopher Allen open the season with an evening celebrating the many voices of the American songbook.
From the wit of Broadway to the intimacy of art song, the program brings together music by Sondheim, Rodgers and Hart, Bernstein, Weill, Ives, Barber, and Liebermann, alongside poetry by E. E. Cummings, Langston Hughes, and Allen Ginsberg. Expect an evening that moves between lively theater numbers, folk-inspired ballads, and lyrical songs that capture the humor, heart, and complexity of the American experience.
With his bright, expressive voice and natural feel for both wit and vulnerability, Bliss brings fresh energy to this diverse repertoire, while Allen joins him at the piano for an opening-night performance that celebrates the richness of American song.
