About The Event

Join the National Portrait Gallery and Ground Shift Studios for Chalking in the Courtyard, a site-specific art experience inspired by portraits of leading figures in U.S. history, taking place on Thursday, July 9.

From 5PM to 7pm, drop by Kogod Courtyard, located in the National Portrait Gallery, to explore interactive chalk activations that bring American history to life in a whole new way. This is the perfect opportunity to get creative, connect with the art around you, and soak in the energy of the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Take 5: Jazz at SAAM concert series — all as part of the Smithsonian’s Our Shared Future: 250 Celebration.

All ages are welcome, so bring your curiosity, pick up some chalk, and make your mark on history.
