About The Event

Art is activism, portraiture is powerful, and knowledge is empowerment.

To honor the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s acts of service and community engagement, join the National Portrait Gallery and its partners for A Day of Action, a public program culminating a year-long digital campaign and initiative Our Struggle for Justice. Geared toward high school and college students, this program is open to all visitors who want to learn about change-makers and meet a dozen local social justice-focused organizations.

  • Get creative while participating in art pop-ups with local artists and creatives who will facilitate artmaking, writing, and printmaking activities.
  • Hang out with friends and listen to live music by DJ Adrian Loving.
  • Feel the vibes with the emcee Healacist HipHopMomma Princess Best.
  • Learn from change-makers who are doing the work and about the activists featured in the Portrait Gallery’s permanent exhibition “the Struggle for Justice.”

Registration is encouraged for this free event.
