
SAM Appreciation Letters
The DowntownDC BID often receives words of praise from visitors, workers and residents touched in some way by the help and reassuring presence that our Safety/Hospitality and Maintenance employees, known as SAMs, provide on Downtown streets. Here are a few comments:
“I’m cognizant of the fine work/assistance/conveniences provided visitors by your organization, since I continue to visit the DC area several times each year. But I felt the extra time and effort extended by one of your employees deserves a special “thank you” from this recent visitor. Because of a recent, total hip replacement, I was hobbling with a cane in search of my car. Your Roy Johnson noticed my trouble in locating the auto, which I only recalled parking at a meter somewhere in the vicinity of the National Press Club building. Armed with only the information that the car (rented and bearing a Delaware license plate) was possibly in a 13th street block, Roy cheerfully accompanied me several blocks. Because of my uncertainty and stupidity in not noting my parking spot, I suggested several times that I go along alone. Roy would have nothing of it and insisted on continuing the search, stopping occasionally to answer a tourist’s query. When it became almost certain that the car was not on 13th Street, I suggested I try 14th Street alone. Roy declined and suggested that, since we still had two blocks remaining on 13th Street, we continue. Voila! There was the car, on the last block! Thanks to Roy’s determination and patience (on a 90-degree day) my visit was pleasant and the experience memorable!”
