Struggling with mortgage payments following an involuntarily job loss? The DC Housing Finance Agency’s (DCHFA) HomeSaver Program can help. Thanks to a U.S. Treasury Department initiative, DCHFA has more than $20 million in foreclosure prevention assistance for up to 1,000 unemployed DC residents. Help is available in three categories: Lifetime Payment Assistance (a one-time payment of up to three months of mortgage delinquency); Mortgage Payment Assistance (15 months of mortgage payment assistance equal to 100% of the mortgage payment); and Restore Payment Assistance (a one-time payment of up to six months of delinquency to catch up on mortgage payments). The latter is only available for borrowers recently re-employed. A HomeSaver Program pilot launched in Wards 5, 7 and 8 in January and will be available citywide beginning April 12.
