New Dunkin’ Donuts and Jimmy John’s Coming

Downtown is about to welcome its third Dunkin’ Donuts, scheduled to open next week, and its second Jimmy John’s gourmet sandwich shop.

Both will open in prime, ground floor retail space at 1200 G Street, across from Macy’s (1201 G Street). We reported in January that most of the office building’s retailers—divided into five separate stores with their own addresses—either left or were leaving to make way for a restaurant. Only now, it’s two eateries.

Two existing businesses remain on the spot: Robert Laurence Jewelers (1202 G Street) and VIP Custom Taylor & Dry Cleaner (1206 G Street). The former, a 40-year-old tenant, will stay put. The latter will move next month, possibly to 800 K Street.

Meanwhile, another, unidentified, retailer is lined up to move into the building, according to Streetsense, the brokerage and real estate firm renting space in the building. And, 1,100 square feet of space is available for lease for a retail tenant.

Donuts now seem to be all the rage. Also new this year:

  • Dunkin’ Donuts – 1101 14th Street
  • Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken – 1308 G Street

District Doughnut … think peanut butter & jelly, lemon meringue and coconut lime donuts … is reportedly negotiating a lease in Chinatown.

Downtown’s first Dunkin’ Donuts opened at the Verizon Center (601 F Street) on 7th Street. Jimmy John’s opened its first BID-based shop at 1101 14th Street in 2011.
