With many donors cutting back contributions to the arts, it’s good to know the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (DCCAH) continues to fill gaps in the funding cycle. Of 227 grants awarded to local artists and non-profit arts organizations for fiscal year (FY) 2012, more than a dozen will be given to concerns located in the DowntownDC BID area. Collectively, those organizations will receive more than $540,000 of the $3.7 million set aside for eight of nine programs that DCCAH administers.
The Downtown grant recipients are:

- Cultural Tourism DC (1250 H Street), $40,000

- Ford’s Theatre Society (511 10th Street), $ 27,500
- National Building Museum (401 F Street), $36,000
- Sixth & I Historic Synagogue (600 I Street), $50,000
- Solas Nua, Inc. (916 G Street), $42,500
- The Essential Theatre (1112 11th Street), $11,089
- The Shakespeare Theatre (450 7th Street), $72,500
- The Theatre Lab School of the Dramatic Arts (733 H Street), $15,000
- Turning the Page (1010 Vermont Avenue), $18,000
- Washington Bach Consort (1010 Vermont Avenue), minimum of $55,364
- Washington Youth Choir (755 8th Street), $15,000
- Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company (641 D Street), $27,500
Earlier this month, DCCAH announced a new grant program, the Arts Impact Grant (AIG), launched to help organizations with projects, programming and operating support for FY 2012. Groups that significantly impact DC residents through exhibitions, presentations, training and educational opportunities in the arts and humanities can request up to $30,000. AIG is open only to organizations that did not receive FY 2012 funding; it cannot be used for capital projects and expenses.
