The District of Fashion, a special event and business-development program created and managed by the DowntownDC Business Improvement District (BID), was launched to serve as a unique platform for designers, buyers, fashion press, stylists, and other fashion creatives to conduct world-class business in the nation’s capital. District of Fashion events are anchored by some of the “big 4” fashion capitals’ events such as New York Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week. The BID’s goal is to help establish the District as a thriving fashion capital and to create awareness about the city’s local, innovative, and inclusive fashion industry.

To date, the BID has held three District of Fashion events:

In response to the success of the inaugural District of Fashion event, the BID partnered with the D.C. Commission on Fashion Arts and Events for the two 2019 shows (CFAE 2018 Report). The inaugural event also received the International Downtown Association’s 2019 Downtown Achievement Award of Excellence.

With the September 2019 event, the BID also produced a print District of Fashion Magazine, which may be viewed at the bottom of this page.

Although plans were made for a spring 2020 fashion event, the arrival of the Coronavirus pandemic canceled its production, and currently the BID has put the District of Fashion program on indefinite hold.
