LGBT Pride

Capital Pride 2012 will return for 12 action-packed days starting on Wednesday, May 30th and culminating on Sunday, June 10th. Three events will take place in Downtown, including the popular Capital Pride Festival on Pennsylvania Avenue.

This annual street festival and parade celebrating pride in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community also includes citywide town hall meetings, an interfaith service, parties, cultural events and a reception which recognizes heroes in the LGBT and allied communities who have made a difference in people’s lives.

The free Festival will take place from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm and draw more than 200,000 people, who turn out for a full day of entertainment, music, food, drink, education, and celebration. The Festival will include an expanded family area, a new Art Fair, demonstration area, and more. Other Capital Pride events happening in Downtown: the Heroes Gala & Silent Auction and Gaylarious!

The gala will unfold on May 30 from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm at 918 F Street, LivingSocial’s new venue. The occasion will honor trailblazers in the LGBT community and recognize Engendered Spirit awardees. Gaylarious!, a stand-up comedy show featuring Jessica Kirson (of Comedy Central’s Premium Blend and Fresh Faces fame), will take place on Wednesday, June 6 from 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm at the Riot Act Comedy Theater (801 E Street). A portion of all sales will be donated to Capital Pride 2012.

Gala tickets are $50 and include an open bar, hors d’oeuvres and live entertainment. But there are only a limited number of tickets, so hurry! To make a purchase, call 202.719.5304. Find out more, including information on the annual Parade in Dupont Circle.
