A Private Meeting Place

There’s new, spruced up space at The City Club of Washington (555 13th Street), just in time for its 25th anniversary. The private social and business club completed a multi-million dollar renovation which commenced in January. What to expect: a completely refurbished interior with a new foyer, an expanded anytime lounge and media room, an elevated dining room with fountain-side dining, and—overall—a more modern, stylish look. Still available: fine dining, private rooms and a ballroom. Founded in 1987 on a charter of nondiscrimination and membership by invitation, The City Club is now more casual and flexible and offers live music, movie and jazz nights. In fact, it held an open house last month, when it offered special memberships to Penn Quarter businesses and the community. The club is owned by Dallas-based ClubCorp, which owns more than 150 clubs and is affiliated with 800 more.
