A Little TLC

Adopting a street tree in DC just got a lot easier, if you’re a smart phone user. The District Department of Transportation’s (DDOT) Urban Forestry Administration (UFA) is piloting a Quick Response (QR) tag on or near newly planted street trees this spring. The test will be available in only four neighborhoods in Wards 1, 3, 5 and 8 but could expand citywide if successful. Scanning the tag will link directly to an online form to sign up for the Canopy Keepers tree adoption program. You’ll receive a free slow-drip watering tub for every tree adopted. Residents and businesses can also adopt street trees by calling 311 or submitting an application online.
