Toys for Tots & Smithsonian American Art Museum / National Portrait Gallery Tour Tickets
About The Event
The holiday season is the time to remember those in need.  Toys for Tots is a great program that we will be teaming up with to help our local children have a happier holiday.  Can you join us?
Toys for Tots is a program run by the United States Marine Corps Reserve which distributes toys to children whose parents cannot afford to buy them gifts for Christmas. The program was founded in 1947 by reservist Major Bill Hendricks.
In exchange for your toy donation for this event you can then join us on a two-hour guided âhighlightsâ tour of the Smithsonianâs American Art Museum and National Portrait Gallery.  After our tour, you are welcome to join us for dinner and socializing.
Â
Event Information – Please Read Carefully
Registration: In exchange for your two-hour guided highlights tour of the Smithsonianâs American Art Museum & National Portrait Gallery, bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate to the âToys for Totsâ program. Also, this is a limited space event.  Please keep your RSVP up-to-date and/or honor your commitment.Â
Additional Toy Donations: If you just want to donate a toy as part of our group, without attending the tour, of course that is fine, just meet as at the Navy Memorial, and no need to RSVP. Have any family/friends/coworkers/neighbors/etc. that have toys to donate?  Please bring those along also!
Weather: The event is mostly indoors and thus take place rain or shine. If itâs on the calendar, then weâre proceeding as planned.
Metro Station: The Archives – Navy Memorial – Penn Quarter station.
Parking: There is limited paid and free and paid parking throughout the area – however, please note time limits and restrictions. Â
Meeting Point: Meet âoutsideâ of the United States Navy Memorial. We can potentially take a group photo with our donated toys. Once we drop them off weâll walk a few blocks to the Smithsonianâs American Art Museum / National Portrait Gallery for our tour. Â
Timeliness: Please be on-time or even early if possible. Weâll drop off our toys at the Navy Memorial, which closes at 5:00 pm, before heading to our tour. If for some reason you join our group later at the museum (not recommended but we understand things happen) you will not be able to donate your toy as neither the event organizers nor the museum can accommodate toy donations.  Please be on-time or even early if possible. Â
Ending Point: The Smithsonian.
Post-Event: Optional socializing/dinner/desert/drinks afterwards at a TBD location nearby (potentially the Chinatown Fuddruckers, which is one block north of the museum at 734 7th Street NW (http://www.fuddruckers.com/dc-chinatown).
