The Future of the Secret Cities
About The Event
Find out how the U.S. government and its contractors are preparing for the next 75 years at Los Alamos, New Mexico, Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Hanford, Washington and other sites built during World War II for the Manhattan Project. Undersecretary for Nuclear Security and NNSA Administrator Lisa Gordon-Hagerty, (invited), David Klaus, formerly of the US Department of Energy, and Peggy McCullough, general manager, Bechtel, discuss efforts under way to modernize these sites, continue their breakthrough scientific discoveries and clean the by-products of decades of nuclear weapons production and related technologies. The talk is moderated by Museum curator G. Martin Moeller, Jr., and complements the exhibition Secret Cities: The Architecture and Planning of the Manhattan Project, which will be open before the program.
