About The Event

Hear George Washington University’s Trachtenberg School of Public Policy professor Leah Brooks discuss the economic impact of the 1968 riots on retail properties in Washington, D.C. The city sustained substantial damage along the 14th St. NW, 7th St. NW and H St. NE commercial corridors—now some of the most active retail areas in the city. Through maps and data analytics, Brooks explores how, when and why these areas evolved from the ashes of the uprisings over the past half-century and what these changes mean for the future of Washington’s urban development.
