About The Event
Step in to the Year of the Horse with Midnight Madness in Downtown DC’s Chinatown! Join the DowntownDC BID, 1882 Foundation, and Chinatown Lunar New Year Coalition, to celebrate the Lunar New Year with thrilling lion dances, pounding drums, and colorful festivities as the crew takes to the streets to bring luck and prosperity to local businesses and the community. In spirit of the new year, this vibrant celebration fills Chinatown with electric energy, rich cultural traditions, and remarking sights and sounds.
Don’t miss your chance to experience the magic, excitement, and spectacle of Lunar New Year at the heart of the city!
Participation
The public is invited to join the line and feed the lions with red envelopes. Participating businesses will receive red envelopes and lettuce as a part of the “Choy Cheng” tradition, which symbolizes spreading wealth and warding off the negative spirits. Businesses interested in participating, please contact Teach Roberts at hungcilion@gmail.com.
Route
Follow Hung Ci Lion Dance Troupe around the Chinatown to wish the surrounding businesses happiness and luck. Starting at the 1882 Foundation headquarter office, the crew march through the 7th and 8th Street, then ends the route at Anthem Row.
