History Happy Hour – First Family Holiday Traditions

Join Jim Hewes, veteran bartender at theĀ Willard InterContinentalāsĀ Round Robin Bar, and Evan Phifer, Research Historian at theĀ White House Historical Association, as they examine the evolution of holiday traditions at The White House since 1880.
When did the National Christmas Tree lighting begin? Who started the tradition of selecting a theme for the official White House Christmas tree? Which president holds the record for the greatest number of Christmas trees in the White House? What president was known for having an indoor snowball fight at their holiday party? Which first lady started the custom of decorating an official tree in the White House? Why did Teddy Roosevelt ban Christmas trees in the presidential manor?
These are just a few of the many questions to be discussed at the Willard InterContinentalās December History Happy Hour- First Family Holiday Traditions.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to learn how to make three seasonally inspired cocktails including the Willard InterContinentalās famous Jingle Bell Julep.
