About The Event

Watch the 1971 film CG 8225: The People and the Police, documenting the effort to establish the Pilot District Project in Washington, D.C., which aimed to improve relations between the police and the communities hardest hit by fires, looting and other civil disturbances in the spring of 1968. Then, join a discussion moderated by Derek Musgrove, associate professor of history at the University of Maryland-Baltimore Campus and co-author of Chocolate City: A History of Race and Democracy in the Nation’s Capital. This program complements the exhibition Community Policing in the Nation’s Capital: The Pilot District Project, 1968–1973, organized with the Historical Society of Washington, D.C.
