About The Event

Where can you find a Dromedary Camel, Bactrian Camel, Dragon Horse, American Eagle, Buffalo, and an Auspicious Triple sheep? In DowntownDC!

If you’ve enjoyed these beautiful sculptures from Taiwanese artist Hung Yi, here is your chance to color them yourself and win prizes. The DowntownDC Business Improvement District’s (BID) Fancy Animal Coloring Contest is now open.

Click here to download the Fancy Animal Carnival coloring pages, color them in (or get your little one to color in an animal), and post your finished work on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook using the hashtag #FancyAnimalCarnival and tag @DowntownDCBID. Adults can indicate if you’re submitting a “junior” entry for ages 10 and under. Post your entry by 5pm EST on Oct. 12 for a chance to receive a gift bag from BLICK art as well as movie tickets to Regal Cinemas.

You can also enter via email by sending us your entry or your child’s entry to communications@downtowndc.org with your name, age, social media handle, email address and a phone number to reach you.

Two winners will be chosen Oct. 16 and announced on social media. One winner will be chosen for the junior category (10 and under) and one for ages 11 and up.

These five whimsical, larger than life sculptures arrived in DowntownDC in May for all to enjoy as part of the Fancy Animal Carnival installation by renowned Taiwanese contemporary artist Hung Yi. Yi’s magnificent works are inspired by his everyday interactions with society and nature. The painted patterns reflect folk culture and religion, as well as the artist’s personal experiences and observations of people’s everyday lives. Much of Yi’s inspiration comes from Taiwanese society, but Yi has also been influenced by artists such as Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, and Joan Miro.

Learn more at the BID’s Fancy Animal Carnival website here.

This is your last chance to check out the animals, located at CityCenterDC (825 10th Street NW), Chinatown Park (6th & Massachusetts Avenue NW), and Herald Square (13th & New York Avenue NW). The sculptures will be departing DowntownDC on October 16.

The Fancy Animal Carnival is hosted and sponsored by CityCenterDC and the BID and made possible through support from the U. S. National Park Service, the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts, the National Capital Planning Commission, the D.C. Government, Oxford Properties and Gould Property Company.
