Services Center
For more than 25 years, the DowntownDC Business Improvement District (BID) has played a direct, hands-on role in supporting individuals experiencing homelessness in our community. That work expanded significantly in 2019 with the opening of the Downtown Day Services Center (DDSC)—a state-of-the-art facility, largely funded by the DC Department of Human Services and operated by the BID. This facility offers life saving resources and housing support.
The DDSC serves an average of 225 guests daily and reaches tens of thousands of unique individuals per year. Its mission is driven by three core actions:
When guests choose to receive on-site services, they meet with a case manager to assess eligibility for housing, employment, healthcare, and other support services. Case management services are provided each weekday by dedicated members of the team at Pathways to Housing DC. pathwaystohousingdc.org
The BID works with a variety of partners and service providers to accomplish the work of this facility, most notably, the DC Department of Human Services. In addition to the team at Pathways to Housing DC, the DDSC partners with HIPS www.hips.org, Unity Health Care unityhealthcare.org, the DC DMV, and the Terrell Waters Dental Clinic.
- Ongoing outreach to connect with individuals living outdoors
- Case management to guide guests through the housing process
- Meeting basic daily needs to support progress toward stability

Support and Donate
One of the most effective ways to support unhoused individuals in Downtown D.C. is through a monetary donation to the DowntownDC Foundation, which allows our staff to meet urgent needs and operate timely initiatives to meet our biggest community demands. In-kind donations are also welcome and can be dropped off at the Downtown Day Services Center (DDSC), located at 1313 New York Avenue NW.
Most-needed items include:
- Clothing: pants, T-shirts, button-up shirts, etc.
- Shoes: athletic shoes and boots
- Knit caps, gloves, thick socks, thermal underwear
- Fiction books and games
Please Note: The DDSC cannot accept sleeping bags, tents, children’s items or clothing, furniture, mattresses, or electronics. Due to safety measures, we ask that donated clothing be new or professionally laundered.
