Yippee! With an agreement to end the National Basketball Association (NBA) lockout expected by week’s end, the Washington Wizards plan to take on the Philadelphia 76ers at 7:00 pm on Friday, December 16, at the Verizon Center (601 F Street).
Tickets to the first pre-season game of the 2011-2012 season went on sale Monday, much to the relief of Wizards fans and Downtown businesses—particularly restaurants and hotels—which have reportedly lost out on millions of dollars in revenue caused by the lockout. This year’s shut out is the fourth since the NBA was launched in 1946 as the Basketball Association of America.
To dust off the pre-game blues experienced by both fans and the community, all are invited to a Season Preview Open House taking place at 6:00 pm on Thursday, December 8, at the Verizon Center. What to expect: Q&As with radio and television personalities Dave Johnson, Glenn Consor and Phil Chenier; complimentary hotdogs and sodas; appearances by G-Wiz and the Wizards Girls Dance Team; and a peek at the new basketball court.
