Since opening in early February, Sixth Engine (438 Massachusetts Avenue) restaurant, “contemporary American cuisine served with a slice of history,” has rolled out a few specials. Look for free dessert with your dinner order every Monday, if you reside in the 20001 area code, and Half-Price Wine Nights on all full-bottle purchases every Tuesday. An open patio that seats 40 diners is coming soon. Sixth Engine is housed in the Old Engine Co. No. 6 firehouse, built in 1855 and vacated in 1974. Spread over two levels, the restaurant has a bar and dining area on the lower level and a dining room with the original firehouse floors, windows and brick walls upstairs. And yes, the building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
