Carless Mode

On September 22, International Car Free Day, many DC residents will leave their clunkers and new cars at home.

This year, along with thousands of metropolitan Washington area residents, they will observe Car Free Day and either get around without their vehicles or go “car lite,” by carpooling or vanpooling. Car Free Day is a time to reduce environmental impacts and promote alternatives to car dependence by walking, biking and riding public transportation.

A DC Car Free Day Celebration, replete with live music, giveaways and more, will take place at 7th and F Streets NW. You can take the Car Free Challenge and make your pledge for Car Free Day 2009 by visiting www.carfreemetrodc.com.
