Fans of historic buildings and districts across the city will be able to network with like-minded aficionados at the DC Preservation League’s 2009 Annual Fundraiser on Thursday, April 2. Musing about the advocacy and education organization’s work on behalf of more than 28,000 buildings will be allowed.

Originally known as Don’t Tear It Down, the DC Preservation League has worked to save many local buildings, including preventing the federal government from razing the Old Post Office Building on Pennsylvania Avenue and pursuing landmark nominations for the Warner Theatre and the Woodward and Lothrop building.

The cocktail reception, “Adapting the Historic and Integrating the Modern,” will take place from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm at 1125 F Street, a unique mixed-use development that showcases the adaptive use of four historic buildings and a new Class A building. The fundraiser will focus on preservation and the nearly 40-year-old League’s role in shaping Washington’s unique neighborhoods and historic Downtown.

The evening also will include a short program honoring Shalom Baranes, a longtime League trustee, preservation architect and principal at Shalom Baranes Associates, whose architectural plans helped restore the historic buildings where well wishers will congregate.

Tickets for the event are $100 per person. Douglas Development is hosting the affair, which includes among its sponsors Eric Colbert & Associates architectural firm and Martinez & Johnson Architecture.
