Six months after construction began on the new District Architecture Center (421 7th Street), the public will get the chance to peruse the facility at a Grand Opening on November 4. The center, part of the Washington Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA/DC) and the Washington Architectural Foundation’s (WAF) new headquarters, is a venue for design professionals, consumers, patrons, students and others interested in building design. AIA/DC and WAF will move from Dupont Circle into the space later this month.
In related news, AIA/DC recognized two Downtown properties as 2011 Chapter Award winners. BBG-BBGM, the international architecture and interior design firm, received the Historic Resources Award of Merit for the W Hotel (515 15th Street), while Gensler, another global firm, was awarded the Interior Architecture Award of Excellence for the Pew Charitable Trust (901 E Street), whose building is home to several non-profit organizations.
