Quick PSA: Valentine’s Day is less than a week away. Have you made your plans yet?

Speaking of small local enterprises, the D.C. Government has a grant available, and there’s still plenty of time to apply.

Our DowntownDC Spotlight feature looks at two businesses this week, both of which can inspire your creative side – one in the form of art, one in the realm of style.

Catch up on your news and more in the Digest below.

Please Note: On Friday, February 10, the BID’s Operations Office — home base for our SAMs and Franklin Park team — will be closed until 5:00 p.m. so that staff may attend a memorial service for a colleague. Reduced services will resume at that time. Until 5:00 p.m., please email any issues that need to be addressed to dispatch@downtowndc.org, and we will respond as soon as possible. Normal weekend operations and services will start at 4:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 11.

In November 2022, the DowntownDC BID partnered with TooleDesign to launch the Pedestrian Safety and Experience Study. We successfully surveyed the community through multiple community engagements, the DowntownDC Holiday Market, and an online survey, and we received keen insight into which downtown roadways and intersections need interventions and the community's consideration for safer, more walkable, and vibrant streets.

Join us for a virtual meeting from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1, for the second community meeting, when we’ll share and discuss:
  • Survey findings
  • Preliminary ideas
  • Target locations
  • Existing conditions

Providing the District with a place to view artwork of all kinds since 1976, Touchstone Gallery has new pieces in its space nearly every month — usually with a themed exhibit on one side and a variety of work by its member artists on the other. Here, all media types are accepted: “As long as it fits through the front door — that’s our only limitation,” says Abbey Alison McClain, the gallery’s executive director.
