Neighbor-to-Neighbor Grocery

A bodega’s coming to Downtown’s Penn Quarter neighborhood. Say what? Mather Studio Lofts (916 G Street) resident June Blanks came up with the notion last year and other residents have gravitated toward the idea, excited by the prospect of a compact grocer offering quality fruits, vegetables, meats, prepared foods, regional wine and beer, general household products, and a communal table where workers and neighbors alike can indulge in cups of coffee, read, and relax. Penn Quarter Bodega is considering locations with 3,000 to 5,000 SF of space within the Pennsylvania Avenue and G, 10th, and 7th Streets boundaries. An early 2012 opening is planned.
