Every January, cities across the country simultaneously conduct a census to assess the number of homeless individuals and families living on the streets and in shelters, thus providing a national “Point-in-Time” snapshot of the homeless population. On Wednesday, January 30, the DowntownDC BID will once again participate in this annual “Point in Time” census. But we need volunteers. If you can help, the count will take place from 9:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. Homeless outreach professionals will lead volunteer teams around the DowntownDC BID area to tally the number of homeless persons on the street and collect information on their experiences and circumstances. The data gathered from this effort is critical for determining the unmet needs of Downtown’s homeless population. Results will be registered with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, which sends an annual report on homelessness to Congress. To volunteer, contact David Riedman at DavidR@downtowndc.org or 202-661-7575.
