The DowntownDC BID invites applicants to apply for one-time grants to assist restaurants that offer, or would like to offer, outdoor dining in DowntownDC roadways in the form of parklets or streateries. Funds awarded through the Streatery Assistance Grant Program may be used for the purchase or installation of furniture, planters, plantings, lighting, or other physical items used in a parklet or streatery. Eligible applicants may receive up to $5,000. THE APPLICATION DEADLINE HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO MAY 18, 2022.

Application Information

Use of Funds

Awarded funds can be used for the physical setup or improvement of parklets and streateries that offer/will offer outdoor dining. Examples of items that could qualify include:

  • tables and chairs
  • picnic benches
  • planters
  • plantings
  • umbrellas
  • lighting
  • decor
  • signage
  • heating/cooling elements

Key Dates

  • April 19, 2022: application posted
  • May 18, 2022: application deadline
  • May/June 2022: grant funds disbursed to selected applicants

Eligibility

  • Must be a business that serves food and/or beverages and is located within the DowntownDC BID boundary.
  • Cannot be a national chain (operates more than 10 locations outside of the D.C. region).
  • Must be open for business at time of application.
  • Must submit all required documentation as listed in the Application Requirements section below by May 18, 2022.

Application Requirements

Businesses wishing to apply for funds will need to submit to all materials listed below to grants@downtowndc.org by the application deadline of May 18, 2022.

1. Businesses with an existing parklet/streatery:

  • applicant business’s W-9
  • applicant business’s D.C. Sales Tax Forms April 2021–December 2021
  • picture of existing parklet/streatery
  • copy of active parklet/streatery permit
  • site plan of parklet/streatery with details showing new physical items planned to be installed with the use of grant funds, including seating, plantings, and other items
  • detailed budget and list of items to be purchased for the new parklet/streatery with grant funds
  • timeline for installation and setup

2. Businesses working to setup a new parklet/streatery:

  • applicant business’s W-9
  • applicant business’s D.C. Sales Tax Forms April 2021–December 2021
  • all documents required for a parklet/streatery per District Department of Transportation guidelines (see page 19)
  • picture of where parklet/streatery is planned to go
  • site plan of new parklet/streatery with details showing all physical items planned to be installed, including seating, plantings, and other planned items
  • detailed budget and list of items to be purchased for the new parklet/streatery with grant funds
  • timeline for installation and set up
