Wed. July 31, 2019
WASHINGTON, DC— Change is coming to neighboring DC business improvement districts (BIDs) with Galin Brooks, Vice President of Planning and Economic Development at the NoMa BID, joining the DowntownDC BID as Director of Infrastructure.
The DowntownDC BID announced July 31 the hiring of Brooks to oversee infrastructure and park initiatives as well as support the BID’s sustainability efforts.
“Within our 138-block area, we have many exciting and complex projects that Galin will help aggressively move along,” said DowntownDC BID President and CEO Neil Albert. “We are very fortunate to welcome Galin’s talent and experience to the DowntownDC BID and look forward to setting new, high standards for DowntownDC’s public space realm.”
During her 6+ years at the nearby NoMa BID, Brooks oversaw transformational projects for the neighborhood — including the Metropolitan Branch Trail Safety and Access Study, an update to the NoMa Streetscape Design Guidelines, and the North Capitol Street Needs Assessment. She held primary responsibility for the BID’s role in the POW! WOW! DC international mural festival for the last four years, during which time more than 60 public artworks were created around NoMa.
“Galin has helped to usher in some of NoMa’s best projects since she joined the BID,” said Robin-Eve Jasper, President of the NoMa BID and the NoMa Parks Foundation. “Although we are sad to see her go, we’re looking forward to the great changes she will bring to our neighbors at the DowntownDC BID.”
Brooks also serves as Chair of the Capital Trails Coalition and has served as the NoMa BID’s representative to the Board of DC Sustainable Transportation.
Brooks’ start date with the DowntownDC BID will be Aug. 12.
