Keeping McPherson Square Occupied
Just when we thought members of the Occupy DC movement had left McPherson Square, aka US Reservation 11, for good, they’re back. The group first took over the federally owned park last October, setting up tents and building structures. Months later, the U.S. Park Police raided the park, enforcing its long-standing regulations against camping and using temporary structures for camping on federal parkland. The move reduced the occupiers’ ranks significantly, and in mid-June they announced plans to vacate the premises. Well, not quite. Now, a sign there reads: “Occupy DC Here to Stay.”
