Looking to cut your energy bill? Plant a tree. The Arbor Day Foundation has partnered with Pepco Holding, Inc. (701 9th Street) to provide 3,000 free trees to Pepco customers in the DC area. Under the Foundation’s pilot energy efficiency program, Energy-Saving Trees, Pepco customers can receive up to two free trees. In return, they must plant them in a strategic location to reduce their home energy consumption and properly care for them. The program has an online tool to help customers plant the right trees in the best locations. The tool also provides estimated energy savings derived from using the trees and estimates of other community benefits, such as air quality improvements, stormwater reductions, and carbon sequestration. Pepco is the first company, and the DC area is the country’s first region, to participate in the pilot program. For more information and to reserve trees, visit www.arborday.org/pepco.
