DC Public Library Sponsors DC Reads Campaign

It’s that time when the city hosts one big, ubiquitous book club, and everyone is invited to join. DC Reads 2012: One Book, One City, One Good Read returns with author Azar Nafisi’s Reading Lolita in Tehran as this year’s literary pick. The reading campaign, sponsored by the DC Public Library (DCPL), will take place from Monday, October 15th through Thursday, November 15th.

DC Reads promotes reading for pleasure and gives people an opportunity to read and discuss a single book that appeals to a broad audience. To celebrate the occasion, a series of activities centered on Nafisi’s book will unfold during the month-long reading blitz. Reading Lolita in Tehran is a memoir of the author’s experiences in the West Asian country of Iran from 1978 through 1997.

To join in the citywide reading campaign, grab a copy of the book from the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library (901 G Street), or another local branch. More information about major events, panel discussions, online book chats, film screenings, and a November 10th conversation and book signing with the author is available at the DCPL website.
