You’ll relish in hog heaven when Safeway presents its 20th Annual Barbeque Battle on Saturday, June 23, and Sunday, June 24, on Pennsylvania Avenue in Downtown DC.
The two-day barbecue cook-off will feature tried and true pit masters, who will compete for more than $40,000 in cash and prizes, and bragging rights as the National Barbecue Champion. With 1.2 miles of delectable barbeque to devour along “America’s Main Street,” wear your walking shoes!
Consume succulent grub from a slew of vendors. Enjoy free food in the Safeway Sampling Pavilion from noon to 6:00 pm on both days (that is, while supplies last). Have a funky good time when 30 different bands–including the Chuck Brown Tribute Band, Con Funk Shun, Soul Asylum, and Cowboy Mouth–break loose on three stages. And visit Restaurant Row, where nine establishments, including Downtown’s Hill Country BBQ (410 7th Street), will serve up finger-licking fare.
