Celebrating Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, this program explores music as an expression of cultural heritage, identities, and community histories. It features Sunny Jain, Nobuko Miyamoto, and Julian Saporiti, who are among the first artists featured on the new Smithsonian Folkways Asian Pacific America Series. This conversation is moderated by ethnomusicologist Dr. Deborah Wong, and the artists will share new collaborative recordings produced for this program.
New Songs for Ourselves is a co-presentation of Smithsonian Folkways Recordings, the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, and the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center. It is produced in part with federal support from the Smithsonian Asian Pacific Initiatives Pool, administered by the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center.
