The DowntownDC Business Improvement District (BID) is a private, non-profit place management organization that provides capital improvements, resources and research that keep the BID area clean, safe, economically, and environmentally strong and accessible. We are a catalyst, facilitator and thought leader in diversifying the economy, promoting public/private partnerships, and enhancing the downtown. experience for all. This special district, where property owners have agreed to tax themselves to fund services, encompasses a 140-block area of approximately 530 properties from Massachusetts Avenue on the north, including the Walter E. Washington Convention Center at Mount Vernon Square, to Constitution Avenue on the south, and from Louisiana Avenue on the east to 16th Street/Black Lives Matter Plaza on the west.

Position Summary:

The DowntownDC BID is looking for a Marketing and Communications Intern (16 to 29 hours/week). This role will be under the direction of the Director of Marketing and Communications. The candidate will perform a full range of marketing, communications, social media and administrative assistance. We’re seeking someone who is a proactive self-starter, equipped with a positive, can-do attitude, who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can work independently with minimal supervision..

Responsibilities:
  • Provide support for production of internal communications using a wide variety of electronic and print media, including, newsletters, website, presentations, email campaigns, press materials etc.
  • Provide production assistance for marketing and communication meetings and/or events.
  • Assist with all aspects of production around the development of marketing communications projects.
  • Aid in compiling and analyzing social media metrics.
  • Research marketing, communication and social media trends.
  • Assist with daily administrative duties.
Requirements:
  • Background in communications, public relations, marketing, design, or other related disciplines.
  • Working towards a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in marketing and communications, business administration, or a closely related field.
  • Must be computer literate (working knowledge of word processing, Microsoft Office Suite). Familiarity with WordPress highly desired. Knowledge of HTML and graphic design a plus.
  • Self-motivated, good organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills with strong academic background.

 

Start Date:

July 28, 2025, requires 6 months of minimum commitment.

Hours:

16 – 29 hours/week.

Additional Information:

DowntownDC BID expects the base salary for the Marketing and Communications Intern role to range from $23 to $25 per hour, depending on current market data and the candidate’s qualifications for the role, including education and experience. The compensation described above is subject to change and could be higher or lower than the range described based on several factors.

Please note that this part-time role will not be eligible for all benefits typically offered by DowntownDC BID.

Additionally, this is a hybrid role that will require some on-site presence, and the BID currently has a 4-day in-office policy. Please note that this policy is subject to change and may be adjusted based on future organizational needs and circumstances.
