The Washington Business Journal published a letter to the editor June 19 from DowntownDC Business Improvement District (BID) Director of Economic Development Gerry Widdicombe.

The subject matter was a recent article about German discount grocer Lidl:

“Daniel Sernovitz’s June 12th article about Lidl, the German discount grocer, establishing a U.S. headquarters in Arlington’s Potomac Yards neighborhood is great news for the D.C. region. It is great news for Arlington, Northern Virginia, suburban Maryland, D.C. and downtown D.C., where I work…

There are many political jurisdictions in our region, and we should take the time to congratulate each other on our collective successes, such as D.C.’s success with Pigmental Studios and Prince George’s County’s success with MGM. The more collective successes we enjoy to grow the region’s private sector, the stronger our regional economy will be as it becomes less dependent on the federal government.”
