JOINT STATEMENT: DowntownDC BID and Mount Vernon Triangle CID Support Apple Opening Carnegie Library Location
Washington, D.C. - DowntownDC Business Improvement District (BID) Executive Director Neil O. Albert and Mount Vernon Triangle Community Improvement District (MVT CID) President and CEO Kenyattah Robinson on Dec. 9 issued a joint statement in response to news that Apple Inc. has executed a letter of intent with Events DC, the District's convention and sports authority, to open a flagship store in the historic Carnegie Library:
"We welcome the announcement that Apple has executed a letter of intent to open a global flagship store in the historic Carnegie Library, located in the DowntownDC BID and adjacent to the Mount Vernon Triangle CID, restoring this iconic and historic landmark and establishing a new, global retail destination for DowntownDC and Mount Vernon Triangle.
"Apple's proposal is yet another signal of the retail growth and business opportunities that are flourishing at the center of our vibrant city. This flagship store will serve as an important anchor and retail catalyst for many of the existing 835 retailers in DowntownDC and Mount Vernon Triangle, will support the Walter E. Washington Convention Center and its over 1 million annual attendees, and will add a new destination for the growing local residential and consumer communities that exist within our districts."
