Join the literary bandwagon. Live to Read kicks off today and continues through Wednesday, May 15. This year’s book selections are Anthony Grooms’s Bombingham and Christopher Paul Curtis’s The Watsons Go to Birmingham – 1963. Both historical novels focus on the climactic events of the Civil Rights movement that took place in Washington, D.C., and Birmingham, Alabama. This citywide literary effort is hosted by the Humanities Council of Washington, DC. The group and its partners will provide a number of opportunities for people to convene to discuss the books and meet the authors. It all begins today at the Deanwood Neighborhood Library and Community Center, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The first 200 people to arrive will receive free books. Find out more.
