Ah, summer: Long days, cold drinks, and lush landscapes make that heat and humidity worth it. And you can take it all in throughout DowntownDC with upcoming events and a late-July weekend dedicated to kids. Prefer to stay inside? Illustrations by Leonardo da Vinci are on display for the first time in the U.S. at the MLK Library, an upcoming evening celebrates the area’s best bars and restaurants, and plenty of downtown establishments land on a top 100 list.

SUN'S OUT, FUN'S OUT

If you haven’t already heard, the DowntownDC and Golden Triangle Business Improvement Districts, along with Mayor Muriel Bowser, recently launched the Downtown Action Plan, an effort to reimagine the city’s core. There are plenty of ways to get involved: Attend an upcoming webinar, submit your ideas (big or small, all are welcome!), and more.

REIMAGINE DOWNTOWN

Although his time was six centuries ago, Leonardo da Vinci is still revered for his polymath genius. Now you can experience some of that brilliance through “Imagining the Future — Leonardo da Vinci: In the Mind of an Italian Genius,” the new, free exhibit at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library. Now through August 20, visitors can view 12 of his sketches and notes, which provide a little bit of insight into the varied interests of one of history’s greatest artists and thinkers.
