The DowntownDC BID put out the following notice to it’s property managers this afternoon. Restaurants and retail shops that have outside furniture or signs should secure them or move them indoors just in case.
A low pressure system and cold front over the Midwest will approach the area tonight, and pass through the region tomorrow. Two rounds of severe thunderstorms are possible. The first would be overnight, the second would be during the day Thursday. The storms are also likely to generate tornadoes and cause power outages that will be followed by oppressive heat.
The Downtown BID’s SAMs have been checking catch basins and gutters throughout the Downtown this past week as part of normal routine inspections. We encourage properties to remain informed about the developments of the storm as it moves through the region.
Visit the NWS Baltimore/Washington Emergency Management site for the most up-to-date information on this system and also check out the National Weather Service’s site at http://www.spc.noaa.gov/ for updates.
