THE PROCESS

The DowntownDC BID is running a planning process to reimagine parks and open spaces in DowntownDC, known as the DowntownDC Parks Master Plan.

AN ESSENTIAL PART OF DRAFTING THIS VISION IS YOU – WE NEED YOUR FEEDBACK, THOUGHTS, AND INPUT. EVERYONE WHO LIVES, WORKS, AND VISITS THE DOWNTOWNDC AREA HAS A VOICE IN THIS PROCESS.

DowntownDC Parks Plan Community Meeting

The DowntownDC BID and the project consulting team hosted the final community meeting for the Parks Master Plan on June 16th, 2022.

The meeting discussed how the planning and design process has been shaped by community input, including needs assessment, understanding community priorities, and determining design elements best suited to individual parks. Please see the recording of the meeting below to learn more about the project and see design concepts for the three parks that are the highest priority for the DowntownDC community.

FEBRUARY VIRTUAL MEETING

Public Realm Planning

The Project Team hosted our second Parks Master Plan community meeting on February 17th, 2022, in partnership with the first community meeting for the Greater Gallery Place – Chinatown Corridor Study.

In a joint presentation, our two studies summarized the community-identified needs in the public realm, data analysis & site observations, and our strategies for infusing DowntownDC with higher quality parks and open spaces. Through a series of live polling exercises and a moderated Q+A, we asked for community feedback on proposed intervention typologies.

THE OPEN HOUSE

On Thursday, November 11, 2021, the project team hosted an in person Open House at Franklin Park to share our excitement about our Parks Master Plan development process and hear from our community. We had idea boards where community members shared their thoughts, ideas and needs.

We had wonderful conversations and learned about what people most need from their parks and open spaces in DowntownDC.
