There’s nothing like cooling off on a hot day with a cold, crisp, low-ABV beer, which is why this time of year might as well be called saison season. And for the next three months, you can enjoy a custom-brewed saison thanks to the DowntownDC BID’s collaboration with City-State Brewing. See the details, including the exclusive places to find it. And don’t worry that this beer is so easy to drink: We hear a good way to burn off calories is through activities like cycling, which is just one of many reasons to stop by the city’s biggest stop on Bike to Work Day later this month.

If you're looking to learn something new to get moving outside, join the Morning Tai Chi Series that begins this weekend. After all that, if you want to make plans to relax outdoors: The movies at Franklin Park return on June 1!

Now’s the time to share your own thoughts about how the area around the National Mall will look. Truly! Find out how. Then, learn about a family-run salon business that’s committed to service, a venerable and vital D.C. institution that’s marking a big anniversary this week, and an exciting new restaurant.

Read all of this and the latest news in the Digest below.

In and around D.C., the phrase “K Street” can conjure a range of associations: lobbyists and lawyers, medical offices, boxy architecture, a bus route. But there’s good reason to also think of it as a place for a small, family-run business. That’s what it is for Linh Lam, who owns INARI Salon and Spa, which she operates with her family.

If you can believe it, that building-less area full of idle vehicles in the picture above is what DowntownDC looked like in the 1980s. Today, instead of parked cars, that area is filled with memorable events and more inside the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, which marks its big 25th anniversary this Friday, May 5. Have great memories of the center? Everyone is encouraged to share their photos, videos, testimonials, and more by uploading to the 25th-anniversary website or emailing marketing@rrbitc.com. Want to celebrate right away? Kick off the celebration with a happy hour from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. today, May 3, at Woodrow Wilson Plaza, 1300 Pennsylvania Avenue NW.

The National Capital Planning Commission is inviting comments on the Draft Guidelines for Small-Scale Streetscape Elements, which inform the placement and characteristics of streetscape furnishings and infrastructure on and around the National Mall. Elements include benches, waste receptacles, bicycle racks, and utility boxes, among others. The guidelines were developed by federal and District agencies to help ensure the beauty and functionality of downtown Washington’s monumental core streetscapes. Learn more at virtual meetings on Tuesday, May 9, and Wednesday, May 17. Comments may be submitted through June 20.
