Summertime approaches, and that means there’s more than plenty to do and plan for in DowntownDC. Start by registering for Bike to Work Day, which happens this Friday. Then add other events, such as our upcoming weekly outdoor movie series and weekly lunchtime concerts at Franklin Park. In need of a closet refresh, gents? Check out a new menswear retailer. If you’re passionate about local things, dive into the city’s history or discover an excellent breakfast in our DowntownDC Spotlight stories. Learn how volunteers are making a difference by participating in the BID’s weekend services. Finally, if you or someone you know is passionate about making hockey accessible to all kids, there’s a Monumental opportunity to help that mission succeed.

The DowntownDC Summer Flicks – CAN I KICK IT? movie series is returning for its sixth season at Franklin Park. Thursday, June 1, we’ll start with the great Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (PG-13). Grab dinner to-go from one of many nearby eateries and settle down at 7:30 to hear music from Shaolin Jazz’s own DJ 2-Tone Jones and special guest DJ Biggs. The movie starts at sunset, when DJ 2-Tone Jones will live score the film with a mix of hip-hop, jazz, and more.

The approach here is straightforward: combine six simple ingredients (flour, water, salt, yeast, honey, and a bit of malt powder); hand roll the bagels; boiled them in water with a bit of honey; then, finally, bake them in a brick oven. Whether it’s a bagel with cream cheese or a decadent sandwich to start your day with confidence, Pearl’s Bagels is doing something special with its product.

If you’re grateful for the restaurant that serves a miraculous, cold-curing bowl of soup, for a store staffer who directed you to a great book, or for a handy person who came through to fix something for you, now is your time to show them some love. Washington City Paper is calling for entries for its Best of DC 2023, where you can vote in arts and entertainment, food and drink, goods and services, and people and places. These sectors are broken down further, allowing you to name your favorites across a range of categories. Voting is open through Monday, July 10, and the top choices will be announced on Monday, August 14.
