Over the last fifty years 2001: A Space Odyssey has become one of the greatest films of all time. Director Stanley Kubrick’s science-fiction tale examines humanity’s relationship to machines with a quest to discover its origins. At its release, it was considered revolutionary, not only for its cinematography and storytelling, but also for its design. After the film, Abraham Thomas, the Fleur and Charles Bresler Curator-In-Charge of the Renwick Gallery, discusses the design work of the film and its lasting influence on American culture. Rated G (149 minutes; 1968).
